- Kitara 2-3 Al Hilal Benghazi
Kitara suffered a painful 2-3 defeat Libya’s Al Hilal Benghazi in the CAF Confederation Cup on Friday evening at Martyrs of Benina Stadium, Beghanzi.
Brian Aheebwa and Denis Omedi scored the two consolation goals in a game that Kitara would have picked a point or more if they had handled the game better.
Former KCCA forward, Muhammad Shaban broke the deadlock in the second minute with a free header in front of the goal.
Talha Rizik extended Al Hilal Benghazi’s lead with a simple effort into an empty net after Kitara’s backline and custodian were left lying on the green.
Five minutes into the second half, Kitara’s custodian Crispus Kusiima was sent off after handling the ball out of the box.
Twelve minutes later, Kitara pulled back one through Brian Aheebwa’s exciting half volley as he guided the ball through a forest of bodies.
Al Hilal responded to the scare, and the skipper Elbadry, who calmly converted from the 12-yard mark as Kitara, gave away a simple penalty.
Omedi found the back of the net in the 82nd minute after quickly getting on to a loose back pass, but it was not enough to secure Kitara anything positive from the game.
Kitara still has a chance to overturn the result in the second leg that will be played in a week’s time. The aggregate winner between the two will play Egypt’s Al Masry.
