NEC held Vipers in a goalless draw during the FUFA Super 8 encounter at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, on Friday night.
In the game that was played under floodlights, the hosts struggled to find their rhythm, allowing the visitors to enjoy more possession.
The result leaves the encounter open for everyone to take after the second leg, which will be played next week at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
Vipers failed to meet NEC’s aggressive and physical game, which was commanded by Kiyemba at the back and Ibrahim Thembo in the middle park.
NEC’s best chance in the first half fell to Cromwell Rwothomio’s foot, but his first touch in front of the goal went far from the desired reach.
In the second half, Paul Mucureezi guided home Isma Kawawulo’s free-kick, but the assistant referee flagged the attempt offside.
In the final minutes of the game, NEC were in full charge of the game but failed to convert any of the several chances created.
Both clubs will use the game to highlight short coming and plan to strengthen their loop holes ahead of the upcoming Uganda Premier League edition.
