Select Team secured a 2-1 victory against SC Villa in the quarterfinals encounter at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Saturday.
It was an exciting game as two sides locked horns in an end-to-end encounter that thrilled the crowds.
SC Villa nearly took the lead through Patrick Kakande but the forward’s attempt rattled off the frame as the Select Team survived.
Arnold Odong fired SC Villa ahead in the 25th minute after tapping David Owori’s free kick on the far post.
Four minutes later the Select Team was awarded a penalty after the referee judged Edward Masembe for a foul on Isaac Ogwang.
Ogwang stepped up and converted from the spot to level matters to bring the game to life as the Joggos kept complaining about the penalty.
Villa took full control of the second game though it was a different case in the second half as Sam Ssimbwa’s charges stepped up.
Godfrey Ssekibengo came off the bench to score the winning goal in the 79th minute from outside the box.
The two sides will lock horns on Wednesday, August 7 in the second leg to decide who makes it to the semi-finals of the ongoing tournament.
