Kawempe Muslim secured a well-deserved 2-0 victory against Burundi’s PVP Buyenzi in their first game of CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers.
Agnes Nabukenya was on the target twice as Kawempe Muslim registered a comfortable victory, thus kickstarting their continental journey on a positive.
The FUFA Women Super League champions Kawempe Muslim’s start was delayed due to a heavy downpour at Abebe Bekila Stadium, Ethiopia on Monday, August 19.
Despite the unplayable surface, Nabukenya broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute of the game. The forward was quick tocapitalise on a rebound as Buyenzi’s backline delayed to clear their lines.
As the two teams were still in the dressing rooms for the half time break, the heavens opened once again and restart was delayed for some minutes.
At the top of the hour, Nabukenya’s stunning freekick doubled Kawempe Muslim’s lead against Buyenzi.
Kawempe Muslim are in group B alongside Simba Queens (Tanzania), FAD (Djibouti) and PVP Buyenzi (Burundi).
Kawempe Muslim will return to action on Wednesday against Simba Queens before they take on FAD on Friday.
