The City Oilers continued their reign as the dominant force in Ugandan basketball, securing their 10th consecutive finals appearance with a decisive 78-63 victory over the UCU Canons in Game Three of their semifinal series on Wednesday at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
The Oilers started the game on a strong note, building a four-point (18-14) lead by the end of the first quarter.
However, the Canons fought back in the second period, levelling the score (39-39) at halftime.
The momentum shifted dramatically in the third quarter, as the Oilers staged a remarkable comeback from a 13-point deficit to trail by just two points (54-52) at the end of the period.
The Oilers then took control of the game in the fourth quarter, with Petty Petty leading the charge. His four consecutive three-pointers extended the Oilers’ lead to 15 points with just over two minutes remaining.
The Canons were unable to mount a significant comeback, and the Oilers cruised to a comfortable 15-point victory.
Titus Lual, Ivan Muhwezi, and Parish Petty led the Oilers’ scoring attack with 25, 14, and 14 points, respectively.
Only Peter Sifuma (25 points) and Jerry Kayanga (10 points) reached double figures for the Canons.
With their victory, the Oilers have solidified their status as the team to beat in the NBL and will now look to claim their 10th consecutive championship title.
